Osteopathy for Sinus Problems
Sinuses Pain And The Role Of Osteopathy
Are you struggling with sinus pain that seems to occur every year during winter? Then keep reading ….
Every year as the season changes from Autumn to winter I regularly suffer with sinus pain.
Sinusitis indicates that the sinuses are inflamed. Sinusitis is often caused by an infection, but it can also be caused by allergies, environmental irritants and common colds.
Sinusitis can be very painful. Some symptoms of sinusitis include:
· Facial pain
· Sinus headaches
· Nasal congestion
· Mucous
· Fever
· Reduced sense of smell
Sinus pain can also affect your mood, energy levels and ability to get a good night’s sleep. Symptoms of sinusitis can last for months. Thus, leaving you feeling pretty miserable for a long time.
What are the sinuses?
The sinuses are 4 air filled chambers. They are found in the bones above and behind your eyes, behind your nose and in your cheekbones. The sinus chambers function to:
1. Humidify the air we breathe in
2. Moisten the lining of the nose
3. Trap bacteria in the nose
4. Lighten the skull
5. Give resonance to our voice
6. Protect the skull in case of an injury to the face
Osteopathy can be a useful complimentary treatment to help you overcome your sinus problems!
How do osteopaths treat sinus pain?
Your Osteopath will establish a diagnosis based on your history and clinical presentation. Treatment will likely be focused on releasing restrictions in the cranial and facial bones that form the sinuses. Attention may also be directed towards the upper spine and neck, alongside encouraging blood flow and lymphatic drainage to and from the sinuses.
Treatment aims to clear the infection, reduce inflammation, encourage drainage and relieve congestion. After treatment most patients report they feel less congested and can breathe easier.
I personally experience significant relief from sinus pain with Osteopathic treatment. I can breathe easier. I feel less congested and the severity and duration of my symptoms are reduced. So, I can get back to doing the things that I love and enjoy.
So don’t put up with weeks or months of sinus pain. Reach out and seek help. Life is so much better when you feel well and can do the things you love.
